Skype app on iPhone 4 not showing notifications please help

I use skype for IM but when I have Skype running in the background I don't get notifications when new messages come through. I have notifications turned ON in the settings but i am not notified when i get a new message unless im actually looking at the skype screen. If i click the home button, no notification. I'm running IOS 6 on iPhone 4. Any suggestions?
 
Maybe delete and reinstall Skype? Don't know why but sometimes this fixes misbehaving apps.
