On purchasing my Macbook Pro I downloaded Skype to the desktop. Once I correctly installed Skype into the applications folder I went to delete the disk image from the desktop. If I click eject it does, or if I drag it to trash and empty it does also. On restarting my computer the disk img always appears again on the desktop? I have since upgraded my OS to 10.8.2 in the hope this might fix the bug and verified disk permissions nothing seems to make the delete permanent. I have even tried deleting skype all together from my computer and then reinstalling but this damn thing keeps re appearing on startup. I would appreciate any advice, thanks in advance

Just to be clear, it is the downloaded file which appears back on the desktop, not the mounted disk?

If so try this in terminal:

sudo rm path to file
enter password

Instead of typing the path you can drag the file on the terminal window, it will display the path automatically.

Does it work.
You could also try dragging it into trash and secure empty trash in Menu bar-Finder-Secure Empty Trash.

Hope this works, if not something weird is going on.

Edit: It also might be automatically downloaded, if this is the case, disconnect from internet completely and make sure it won't reconnect and restart, does it show again, if not it is downloaded again when connected to internet and there is something else wrong.

Thanks success

Thanks so much for your help. The terminal solution worked straight away. You have made my day as this used to drive me nuts
