Skype over LTE

I just got off a Skype video call from a friend. He was on his iPad with LTE on and showing, and I was on my home computer - also a very fast connection. He was saying I showed up perfectly on his side, but he was REALLY laggy on my end. The sound would come out and then the video would be 2-3 seconds behind. Sometimes the audio would mess up too. I wonder why this would be the case over LTE?? I know the area he was in is super strong on LTE too (I've speed tested my own iPad there). Maybe the software needs to be improved or something...IDK.
