Hi there
i'm running skype (the latest version) on my 2 month old MBP
specs in sig
When skype is COMPLETELY idle without ANY chat windows open - just contact list> its using 5-10%CPU
If start text chatting with someone it goes to 15% minimum
as i see it, this is completely unnacceptable... i understand such sucking on say video chat.. but plain text? cmmon...
what should i do? i have 1 person i really need to chat to, and i cant just close skype (if i did he coudnt messege me)

why is it a big deal? 15% isnt that much.. you shouldnt be editing a video ro anything extensive like that while skyping anyway lol so i dont think your computer will ever be under stress on skype

Edit: i feel like this came off a bit rude, sorry. I didnt intend for it to be!

yeah.., but i leave skype open almost all the time - even when im not using it in the background it takes 10%cpu (and slightly more battery?)

This is a bit OT, but I hate 5.0!

I use Skype for 1-2 hours every day 7 days/week guaranteed. Just hate the new UI. Let's hope they fix the mess they call 5.0!

Skype is a complete trainwreck in terms of system resources and battery life. It seems at idle that the original Core Duo versus current Quad Cores use the same CPU resources, which indicates it is program design issue.

Battery wise, many of the sub-programs of Skype eat it alive.

I haven't used 5 much as my previous employer loved Skype, where as my current does not do videoconferencing with Skype anymore (thank God), but I hear mixed reviews about it.
