I have added an Iomega Home Media Network drive to my system. On my 2 linux boxes I created entries in the etc/fstab to mount the shares as cifs with no security (guest access). On both of those machines, I can use VLC to watch my .mp4 movies and they play smoothly.

On my new Macbook with SL, the shares are automatically found by "Finder". The movies are already in my iTunes library and played fine in VLS and Front Row when the files were local. But once I moved them to the NAS, they now play poorly, with lots of lagging and pauses.

I searched here and googled this to death. Here's what I have tried:

I tried to smb:// cifs:// and nfs:// mount the drive through the disk utility but it can't seem to verify the connection.

I tried to creating an etc/fstab and added the entries there but it fails to load as well.

I tried to drag the drive from finder to preferences>accounts>user>login items but can't figure out where to drop it.

I am sure it's a connection caching issue since my linux laptop with 802.11 b can play smoothly but the new macbook cannot and it has 802.11 g(?) and a much better video card and processor.

Any help would be appreciated!
