SL & LIon on same HD?

Hi all,
I've downloaded Lion and not installed it yet. My thoughts were to clone my existing HD on my mbp, reformat it and divide into 2 partitions. Put back SL in one and install Lion in the other. Then I can play with Lion without it affecting my main system. Is this feasible? I can't see any problems, but I'm afraid that Lion may change computer setup or something else.
