Hi,

I'm not the most computer savvy on the block and have run into numerous issues.

Have a 1st generation b/w G3, 300MHz, 6Gb hard drive, external LaCie pocket drive, lots of RAM.

Twice the past year, the LaCie file system has become corrupted for "no reason". I had to re-format the disc and lost all files.

I have now bought Sonnett's upgrade to G4, 500MHz. I also bought a 80Gb disk and installed but that didn't accept OS 10.2.8 - only 10.2.1.

After re-installing the original disc after I heard that my machine won't accept a disk larger than 32Gb, it's now running - minus the LaCie.

But I'm considering (and advised by the local Apple retailer) to mount the 80Gb disc as a slave, without any OS.

However, just now I heard that such arrangement is to ask for problems. Someone said something about "ATA" on my type of computer being attached with several flaws.

In hindsight, I should have bought a new machine instead of investing in a piece here and a piece there. But the economy won't allow that. So I'm about to climb the walls: Can someone shed some light on what I can/can't do, some hints, or anything?

TIA
Dan
