I’ve upgraded both watch and phone to v8/iOS 15.

I’ve noticed that now when the bedtime time arrives it will activate the sleep focus as it should and both the watch and phone show this focus is active. However the watch doesn’t turn off the screen and I don’t get the “sleep face” where it just shows the time and you have to turn the dial to get out of it.

If I turn sleep focus off/on manually the watch works fine and the screen goes off as it should & I get the sleep face.

This just seems to be a problem with the “Turn on at Wind Down” setting in the sleep focus

Has anyone else got this problem?

It seems as they've changed it so that the watch face is fully on during the Wind Down time. So once the Wind Down is over, the display goes into the proper sleep face. That's how I perceive it at least, noticing the same as you.

I’m with you. I think it would be better if there was an option for the sleep face to activate during wind down. Currently we are effectively penalized for going to bed early, when the watch face turns on while in bed.

Part of the problem is that the sleep focus is now inconsistent with how it works now.

Turn sleep focus on manually or via a shortcut and the watch instantly turns off the screen and activates the sleep watch face.

If sleep focus is activated when wind down comes along it doesn’t turn the screen off or activate the sleep watch face.

In both cases sleep focus is active.

I've just started using the sleep function. Last night, my phone went into the sleep face mode, but my watch never did. I ended up taking off my watch and sleeping without it.

How do you activate the sleep face on the watch manually? I do not see that option on the watch. Some nights I want to go to bed early and just manually start my sleep, yet still wake up at the same time.

Also, are there good 3rd party apps that are better for monitoring sleep? I really only want to see how much time I was actually sleeping. I don't necessarily need to know the stages of sleep, but it would be nice. I do understand that evaluating stages of sleep is not very accurate.

It can be manually activated by swiping up from the bottom of the watch screen then found grouped in with the DND/Focus buttons.

Is Mirror Focus enabled in the Watch app on the iPhone? I had to set it manually after the update

Thank you. I’ve must have seen that 1,000 times but it never registered. Maybe because I just started monitoring my sleep over the past week. :)

Thanks. That might have been my problem. I’ve changed so many settings in the past couple of days. I only had the problem with the sleep screen not starting that one night.

I don't get the sleep screen on my watch either.. Maybe it's a bug to add to the list of existing software issues.

Update: although I setup sleep focus and bedtime in health, apparently I didn't setup bedtime for the watch. Everything working now

Sleep focus is activated on Wind Down so watch face isn't turned off. Watch face will be turned off only on Bed Time.
