what seems to be the problem?

so it happened around 1 month ago

normal usage, never did anything, but sometimes when turning on the MBP, the latch light keep blinking 3x and the display stops before the apple logo usually appears

anyone know why the light continuously blink 3x??

so i had to restart by pressing + hold down the power button

and try to open the MBP again, usually the 2nd try will work, but sometimes it need around 4 times, what seems to be the crap here?

thanks =)

Have you installed any third party RAM recently? Bad RAM can cause this problem. If you have put the old RAM back in to see if the problem persists.

yo, thanks for the reply

no i havent done anything drastic, just a normal usage everyday, playing WOW, browsing, and MSN, that's it

i upgraded my RAM when i bought this machine ( im using Mushkin 2x2g)

and it never have any problem until recently ( if this is the cause of the RAM, otherwise my RAM does not have any problem )

so is this RAM problem? if it is, why it only happens once in a while and not every time i start my MBP?

thanks

It could be that when it fails the OS is trying to access a piece of the bad ram when running a particular piece of code. RAM can go bad over time.

Try booting from the OS X Install DVD and performing a Hardware Test (hold down the D key when booting). It should allow you to do an extensive test of the RAM. If you still have the old Apple RAM shove it in and see if the problem arises again. If it does not then get the new ram replaced, it should be under warranty. Good Luck.

Try reseating the RAM, or buy new RAM.

3 flashes = "marginal" RAM.

This happened to me.

When I bought 4GB of RAM the problem went away.

Guessing, like other here, I got bad RAM from Apple.

Apple....not only 700 $ RAM, but also nonfunctional! Whoo!

ok so this means something is wrong with my Mushkin RAM

thanks though

oh and about the Original Apple RAM, apparently i sold em :D

but at least now i know its my RAM that causes the 3 flashes and i will change them soon

thanks again for the help

i will try to perform the Hardware test tomorrow and ill post again if something is wrong

Thats a shame you sold them but I dont blame you.

To check which of the 2 RAM chips maybe faulty remove one (so you have only 2GB) and test the laptop, then remove it and try it with the other single chip in.
