Sleep problem

I've been trying to defragment my harddrive (17PB), both by running Speed Disk from the NU CD, and that failing, from my external drive...

Anyway, the problem isn't really with Norton, but the fact that the computer dims the screen after a minute or two of inactivity, then puts the computer to sleep, even though I have set System Preferences to NEVER do either of these things...

So obviously Norton doesn't like that, and when I wake the computer it tells me the disk is damaged or it's a possible media error.

Any other ideas as to how I can prevent the machine from going to sleep?
