Hey guys,

I have a question. I want to be able to sleep the screen (which will essentially initiates the screensaver) when I am temporarily away from my computer, but I don't want to close the lid/put the computer to sleep (i.e. I want music to continue playing, files to continue copying/downloading, etc). I have read to:
1. Launch the “Keychain Access” application located in /Applications/Utilities.
2. Choose “Show Status in Menu Bar” from the View menu.
3. Click on lock icon and select "Lock the screen" (press Ctrl+Shift+⏏ [eject])

Problem is: this will make you enter a password when you wake/"unsleep" your computer also, right? Or does the "Lock the screen" function work indepently from all the other password-protected actions/features? I don't want to be forced to enter a passowrd when I login or wake my computer. I don't have a password on my Mac and don't want/need one; my logic is: if I am sleeping my computer, more than likely I am alone in my house and don't have paranoia/security issues. But if I ever have the need to lock my screen, it would more than likely mean that I am around people, and I will step away momentarily---but I just want my privacy of preventing others from seeing what's on my screen.

Since I currently do not have a password set, I assume I will have to go into User preferences and set/change the passowrd first. My question essentially is: Can I simply lock the screen (and require a password upon unlock) without requiring a password to wake from sleep and/or boot into OS? If I go into: System preferences>Security>General> and uncheck "require password after sleep or screen saver begins", will the screen lock function still promt me for a password independently of "sleep" requiring a password when I awake the laptop?

I hope I have explained this correctly so that you understand what I am trying to accomplish here.

Thanks!
