I know the device isn't meant to be worn while sleeping but i figure some app developer will make a sleep tracking device such as "sleep cycle alarm".

Will the the watchkit API allow this? I heard heart rate is another factor used in waking people during their lightest cycle of sleep. Do developers have access to it?

Someone with more knowledge will chime in I am sure, but I do not believe the APIs currently give 3rd parties access to any of the on board sensors, including heart rate. I am sure that will change with time. The reason Apple tends to have a bit higher quality 3rd party apps is that they don't give the keys to the castle out of the gate.
