It's a 1 year old MB, not sure if that matters or not. I use it in clamshell mode with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse (obviously). I take it to class about once or twice a week, and I usually tell it to sleep with the blue apple icon/drop down menu thing. But, when I unplug everything, it wakes up. Then I have to open up the monitor, and it'll let me log in, it seems to recognize that it's no longer using the external monitor. So then I close it so it'll go to sleep, and here, she usually freaks out on me. Fans keep spinning at high rates, she won't sleep (not within a few minutes, atelast. I don't have time to wait, I have to run to class...) and won't display anything on the monitor or respond to any input. I have to restart with the power button, losing all my opened windows and whatnot.

What am I doing wrong?
