Hi i just got a MBP and its kind of foreign to me since ive never used a mac . So my question is should i manually put it to sleep and leave default settings on the system preferences or just close the computer? thankyou!

LOL By the name of this thread, I thought you were physically sleeping on it. But, in all seriousness, you may just close the MBP and be done with it. It is smart enough to know that you want to put it to sleep when you close it. It will go to sleep almost instantly.

The one issue I have encountered though, is when I leave the lid open, it NEVER goes to sleep. The screen goes dark, but the little sleep light indicator on the front edge never pulses (and the MBP remains warm).

When the lid is closed, it does sleep as intended.

aww i thought someone actually slept on their macbook :( you disappointed me.
Also, check system pref to see when it is set to sleep on battery
