Hi guys, heres a piece of software i made after i got annoyed when i was using programs like "Alarm Clock Pro" which wouldnt work if i enabled the inbuilt OSX screenlock, i hope anyone in the same position will like it.

PS. Its also good if you just wanna lock the screen manually as well...

SleepLock

SleepLock is a custom built Screen Locking mechanism, it was designed after the Apple lock that is available in Apple Remote Desktop, its main purpose however is to serve the users that run programs such as alarm clocks. Often these programs need the computer to login and can not have the "lock screen, awake from sleep" option Apple provides enabled, however this Application allows for the best of both worlds

Installation

To install simply drag "SleepLock" to the "Applications" folder, From here launch "SleepLock"

How To Use

SleepLock is quite easy to use, it is a menu based driven application so you will notice a small grey lock in the menu bar on the right hand side.

Click on the icon and from here you can choose your options, if this is your first time click "Set Password" and enter your password then press enter.

After setting your password you can either enable the SleepLock or you can manually lock the screen with the "Lock" option

Scripting?

We are investigating the concept of allowing scripts to enable the lock so that programs like QuickSilver or other such application launchers can lock the screen (Imagine a hotkey to lock your screen like in windows)

I'm still trying to figure out what it does. I don't see what it does beyond locking my screen.

What's wrong with the current screen locking ability?

With the current locking mechanisms such as "require password to wake" i found that programs like "Alarm Clock Pro" wouldnt work, like the songs wouldnt play.

With this is just covers the screen, its also useful for those who only want to lock when it sleeps not when the screen saver activates (another annoying thing i found in OSX)

I just use the Keychain Access' Status item for the menu bar. I can lock my screen using that without needing the screen saver. (Though it does turn it on.)

I find your program a lot faster to use though. I'd really love a shortcut for it though.

What is the difference between this and Deskshade

Ii currently use Deskshade but am always on the look out for difference applications so I am asking genuinely.

Im working on adding AppleScript support as i said so that someone can quickly lock it with a shortcut,

Also to be noted is that its main purpose is to lock the screen when the system goes to sleep, something that the keychain version does not have.

PS. Hidden preferences

"defaults write com.semaja2.SleepLock max 5" (max attempts)
"defaults write com.semaja2.SleepLock blocked 5" (blocked time)
"defaults write com.semaja2.SleepLock statusIcon 1" (status item, if disabled can only quit via ASS or Activity monitor)

That software also costs money, but it also doesnt lock the screen automatically when the Mac sleeps...

PS. there is actually log output of incorrect attempts in the console.log

Thanks for the shortcut work though. I miss Windows + L a lot for those times I need to run out of my office. Password attempts rock!

Edit: Already answered before I gave the question. Talk about developer response time.

I feel your pain ;) but at the moment all i can offer in the "Lock" item in the menu, shouldnt take long though..

That's what I like about an active board. I guarantee I'll get a response before I get back from the restroom.

Here's some more feedback on what's already there.
