Hi can anybody help, please!!

I was given an Iphone as a gift from my father, who I believe got it in Dubai. I put an Orange (UK) sim card into the Iphone and everything seemed fine. I connected the Iphone to Itunes and before I could realise what was going on, Itunes had downloaded an update and synced the Iphone. The next thing I knew the Iphone is saying, “Slide for emergency” in several languages. Now I can’t access anything on the phone. I’ve tried connecting the Iphone to Itunes in restore mode but it just seems to restore the phone to the latest sync.

Unfortunately I don’t know any of the information regarding the phone, such as which generation it is or what update was added. And if it helps I'm using a PC not a MAC.

Can anybody help or is it completely knackered?

Lighting does strike twice, I have the exact same issue, accidently upgraded to Firmware 2.2.1

Come on guys pleeeeeeeeeassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeee help:)
