I noticed today in my brand new Macbook Pro 16 a small bump over the Magsafe port (on the speaker grill). It's only visible when viewing from an angle (see attached photo) or under fingers tips. Is it 'a feature' or something to complain about/return the computer?

It's really annoying and makes me wonder if it won't somehow get worse...

MacBooks are too premium in asking price. I remember I kept returning this one MacBook Pro years ago until they got it right (issues like dead pixels, etc.) It comes off as 1st world problems, but if they wanna ask for this kind of money then no defect should stand out. That's their problem, not mine or yours.

Agreed and in my opinion the warranty period should be much longer as well.

Thanks guys...I will try to replace it, although I'm not very happy about having to wait for the new unit. It's really barely visible/felt, but of course - annoys once you already find it. Especially for such premium price (even more here in Europe)...

It looks like the magsafe port slightly pushed the aluminium topcase/speaker grill area.

Get them to let you keep it until a replacement comes in.

They only offered to collect this one and send the replacement unit after this one reaches Apple. Plus additionally I might have to wait longer due to supply constrains :/

And in your units there is nothing like this visible, even from an angle (similar to my photo)?

Where did you order from? I don't have the MBP yet because Costco screwed me.

It's bought directly at Online Apple Store. I got two units - one with 32 GB Ram. surprisingly also there I notice a very small bump when I go over the speaker grill with my finger. My brother's unit is totally bump-free.

Sorry to bother again, but just wanted to re-confirm that nobody noticed anything similar to what I described on the left speaker grill? Like a small dent/uneven surface above the Magsafe port? I'm just surprised, because I got two units, from different batches (one BTO from China) and both have it (just one almost invisible).

Ne, perfectly smooth on my 16 M1X 32/1TB

Yeah dude, it should not look like that.

Then I can't believe my luck to have such defect on two units, delivered in separate packages, from different shipments and nobody else in the world noticed similar problem on theirs!

Any chance this could be a deformation caused by heat from the MagSafe charging?

Did it look like that when you received or did you notice only after using MagSafe?

Honestly I didn't notice it before the first charging so this can be the case. But both were charged with different Magsafe chargers and from different power sockets. Why would it deform?

If different chargers / sockets then unlikely…

There have been a few reports of the MagSafe cable and connector getting extremely hot (maybe faulty cable or charger), so was just thinking maybe the internal component in the mac was getting so hot it caused the case to deform. Seems unlikely if you were using two different chargers though.

Just a quick update: Still waiting for a replacement unit. Meantime went to two retail stores and out of the two units I checked - one also had a slight imperfection/bump along the speaker grill (only felt under the finger tips). Of course it was super minor (compared to the one from the photo above), but I guess it's something common, just nobody really is crazy enough to check it obsessively ;)

Weird. I've double checked my 16" and there's definitely no bump. I wonder how prevalent it is.

It feels like something inside the body slightly pushes out the aluminium in this area above the Magsafe port. Maybe it happens during the assembly if some screw/component is screwed too tight? Anyway I would never notice it or be bothered with it if it would be as small as on the one I saw today or on my other unit. But once you are 'allergic' to it - it's easy to notice even on almost perfect units...

No, it would bother me. Particularly because I would wonder WHY it's doing that and if it means something is wrong internally.
