Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro (June 09) and have noticed a slight misalignement of the lid. Looking from the top (lid closed), the lid is not centered (it overhanoverhangs slightly on the left (say 1 mm) and underhangs slightly (say 2-3 mm) on the right).
I am wondering if this is just normal or within specs.
Thanks

I got a replacement Mid-2009 MBP and I noticed this minor defect, too. I've talked to Apple last week and she told me to take it to Apple Store for a quick repair, which I haven't done yet. Anyone got it fixed?

If I were you i'd take it back. I mean, everytime I had the machine shut and I was standing directly above it and staring hard it would really bug me. I mean, the fact that you noticed it after only 8 months speaks volumes. How they can call it a pro machine with such build quality is beyond me!

Thanks for the reply.
I will call apple next week and see what they propose.
I will try to keep you updated.

Yea, this happened to me to.
Take it back, they should be able to sort it out in the same visit

I noticed my 13" MBP was off when I first got it in July '09 it is perfectly flush on the left and overhangs maybe half a mm off the right. I freaked out for a few minutes, then said whatever, it's not like it's bad. It's really unnoticeable to me now. But if I wanted it fixed, could that be done in an Apple Store?

Were they able to fix it on site? Was it a quick fix? I just can't get myself to Genius just for this small issue.

Yes they will be able to fix it. There is 6, t6 screws that hold the display to the bottom case. It is an easy fix, all they do is loosen those screws and realign the display with the bottom case and tighten the screws back down.

Even though this is a minor problem, its a major annoyance.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/796189/ , look here if you want a guide how to do it yourself. It is for the 17in model but it's structured the same.

Please don't fix it yourself if your not familiar with electronics.

Thanks for the hints...
As I leave not that far from the Apple store, I might not do it myself.

Thanks, you made my day. I feel relieved that it's a quick fix in matter of minutes. :)

Was in the Apple Store this morning.
Came at 9.00, left @ 9.10 :)
Fixed by the Genius.

It's possible they could fix it really easily by just taking out a few screws and making sure its all seated right, but sometimes the plastic is just warped enough to put it out of alignment.

When I bought mine the right side had a slight gap when the lid was closed, but somehow the Apple techs were able to fix that when I sent it in to get the SuperDrive/mobo fixed
