My applecare warranty ends end of March 2012.

The track pad has a slight annoying fault in that occasionally, when you press it as normal, it doesnt respond, you have to put more pressure down, sometimes when booting up / awaking from sleep, after some time, the trackpad doesnt respond to the click - you have to press bit more harder.

I booked a genius bar appointment, but on the morning checked and the trackpad seemed to work ok - it seems to occasionally be a pain.

would genius just ignore me if i show them and they themselves can press it?

It could possibly be to do with the battery swelling. Just a guess though..

If it's a pre-unibody, this was relatively common. I'd pull your battery out and look to see if it's visible swollen. If so, you can simply purchase a new battery.
