My primary computer for the last few years has been my 2015 iMac 5K (i5 3.3GHz, 2TB Fusion drive, 16GB) - Luckily for me its been problem free. About 2 years ago I picked up a 13" MBP with Touch bar, the i5, 3.1 model, 256SSD, 8GB, I wanted some portability and that was obviously more convenient than an iMac, which I still used much more often.

A few days ago a friend upgraded to a 16" MBP and asked if I was interested in his older early 2013 15" MacBook Pro - at first I figured it was a downgrade from both of my systems, but I checked it out and since it had the i7 I thought I'd look it up to see how it compared. In every category its 'faster' that what I have at least in geekbench scores which is really the only comparison I can make for now.

For the most part I'm using the internet and emails and the basic stuff, I do use Photos, Lightroom and Photoshop alot but I'm not doing heavy work in there. Very little movie editing (using iMovie) - I've never felt either of the machines I had was slow, but I definitely don't want to go backwards. I just can't believe that an early 2013 laptop is going to be faster that a 2+ year newer desktop and a 4-5 year newer laptop. The iMac I could see to an extent since its only got the Fusion drive, but the Touchbar MBP has an SSD also.

In real world usage would I see any difference with the 2013 15" - good, bad or indifferent? I can deal with the size difference over the 13" (and I won't miss the touchbar) but if I can consolidate from 2 computers down to one and have it be an improvement I'm all for it.

I would suggest if you really want to buy older version of macbook pro, go for 2015 version instead.
2013 model is not a good bargain in my view
