Does anyone know if running sling media on a MBP with a SSD is damaging to the SSD. I think it basically records short clips on the ssd constantly and that is why I ask.

The fact is that every write / re-write slowly degrades the longevity of an SSD. For what it's worth, I've been running Slingplayer on my 256gb Titan SSD for a few months (i use sling player daily) and it hasn't gotten any slower.
