SLOOOW Office! Come On Microsoft!

ALL applications have speeded up dramatically, except for a crucial set of apps: MS Office v.X.

It's just darn slow. Launches quick, typing on Word is ok, but when it comes to scrolling, dealing with images, using the cool transparency feature, etc. etc. DOG SLOOOW!

I've tried it on a
600MHz iBook-- unbarable at times!
667MHz G4 PowerBook-- Mostly OK, but graphics SLOW


So I say Microsoft! THere is something wrong with Office, NOT OS X, since all the other apps I use are fast, but Office is dog slow. Is this another evil tactic? I just want a siimple MS Office that is intuitive (jeezus some features are hidden so well, you can never find them! or use them!) and fast. How come I can edit video fine, but scrolling a freakin text document is so slow?

Has anyone been experiencing similar slowness of OFFice? Havn'T most apps speeded up quite dramatically in 10.2 except Office?

AHA! I knew it. I still haven't bought MS Office and unless I absolutely have to I never will. Come on OpenOffice, save us!

For those of you who need a cheap alternative that can open word, excel, and powerpoint files, check out ThinkFree Office. I hear it's not amazing, but it's pretty good (and cheap). Seems like are only other "real" alternative (other than appleworks) 'til Openoffice comes along further.

XML now, please

I would rather have OpenOffice.org or StarOffice running under Virtual PC rather than pay the Microsoft tax. Microsoft Office wouldn't help my document compatibility problems between OS X and other operating systems because I primarily use the XML standard, not Microsoft's proprietary file formats. Apple Works with XML compatibility would be nice right about now.

I have the same problem and kept wondering if it's only my 500 iBook... 1meg word files scroll okay... AS LONG there are no pictures or graphics in it! Scrolling a page with some pictures is so oo freakin slow that I sometimes think Word has crashed

Hoped that things change after the service pack, but none, nada, niente. Still way too slow.

BTW, every Java app I use is even worse. Try using Limewire and make a search, it binds the system resources for a *while*. xnap isn't better either. Bends like fresh chewing gum...

Is it really my lovely iBook, or do I really need a new quad PowerMac

Well at least for me, iMovie dealing with gigs of data works faster than word with loads of images! All my other apps are really fast after Jaguar except Office. Navigator is fast as hell for scrolling and window resize and Preview has speeded up a lot. Basically Quartz seems to be a lot better in 10.2, EXCEPT FREAKIN MS OFFICE!
