I was just wondering, how come we rarely see slot loading drives in notebooks and desktop computers other than Apple Products?

What are some of the benefits and disadvantages of slot loading drives?

Do you think that they have anything to do with the Blu-Ray negotiations?

They are definitely a lot nicer to use/look at compared to those hideous PC tray drives.

I think slot drives are smaller than disk tray drives. 3rd party laptops use them most likely because they are cheaper and they don't need to be thin since alot of PC laptops are bricks.
Benefits are less moving parts and they take up less space. Plus trays can scratch disks if the laptop is moved.
Nothing to do with Blu-Ray.
