Is it just me, or are App Store downloads painfully slow? For example, it might take a minute to download an 8 MB app. My Comcast connection rates at 15/3 MBps down/up, so it is unlikely to be my network.

It has nothing to do with DNS for slowness in the Mac App store. Just launch /Applications/Utilities/keychain Access (after you quit the Mac App store) and in Keychain Access launch it's Preferences in the Preferences tab and turn off the "Certificate Revocation List (CRL)". Then relaunch the Mac App store and see how fast it goes.

By turning off that list you are opening up your system to software that could pose a threat to your machine and data. This threat could be website based or program based.
