I'm importing CDs with LameBrain using alt-preset-extreme, and CD ripping speeds rarely go above 5x. I've got a dual G5, and a Pioneer dual layer CD burner (can't remember model number, but its a newer DL one with 16x DVD burn speeds and probably an ungodly high CD read speed). I know it has to encode and all, but with 2 G5 processors, shouldn't it be able to do faster?

The CD reading speed is quite often different (slower) then the DAE speed.

The only thing you can do is to make sure you're using an original CD with no scratches/smudges which can slow the process, or to try using a different drive.
