slow, delayed key response with A.Works for X

Apple support can't seem to help.
I am running 10.2.8 with latest
update for appleworks.
It takes forever to open in a new
wordprocessing doc.cursor spins.
frequent delay of keyboard strokes
to letter on the screen.
Have trashed pref...repaired permiss.
and used diskwarrior to rebuild,,,
Any suggestions orther than buy
MSWord for X?:confused:
