slow download/burning compared to ms xp

Hello,

I purchased a MBP this summer and Im really glad for it but I noticed 2 things:

1) When I use binary newsgroups I can with windows download with 11mbit but with unison on my MBP only 2mbit. Its the same connection.


2) When I burn dvds on my MBP the typical speed is 5x and its quality dvd+r memorex dvds! In Windows I get 16x which is what the discs also promiss.


Any ideas? These problems are keeping me from even considering replacing my stationary with a mac pro :-/
