Consultant macrumors G5 Jun 27, 2007 13,314 36 Sep 29, 2008 #2 Might be dying. Backup data while you can. For all external drives, after you eject, you should allow somewhere around 5-10 seconds for the drive to spin down before using the power switch to turn it off. Doing that reduces problems.
