iOS 4.2.1 has, for the most part, for most users, fixed the performance problems of iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G. But this is not true for everyone, including myself. The phone is basically unusable.

I think I've discovered why. Using a couple of stats apps, I have checked my total DRAM. The iPhone 3G is supposed to have 128MB of embedded DRAM. But when I total up Wired, Active, Inactive, and Free, mine comes to less than 64MB.

This explains a lot, because iOS barely works in 128MB, which is why not all the new features are supported.

So, what I'm curious to know is if anyone else has this problem. There are a couple of free memory usage apps you can get, like Memfo and A+ System Monitor. It should add up to something more than 100MB.

Does yours?

Even on the iPhone 4, suppose to have 512MB has only 504MB when everything is all added up. With absolutely nothing running on the phone, the max I ever have free is 365MB, that means the OS is using over 139MB to just stay up and running.
