iPod touch Slow iPod Touch

I have a new iPod Touch 64gb. I have about 40gb of music on it. I have had several instances, particularly after updating playlists or switching from another app in which the response time is very slow when I play music. Sometimes it will take about ten seconds to respond when I press the music button on the bottom or when I tap on a playlist. I'm wondering if others have had this issue and whether you were able to do anything about it.
