Recently my Macbook has had slow download speeds on my home network. I was thinking at first it was my ISP (Time Warner), but my iMac has been blazing fast during this time.

They both have the same processor (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), both have the same Airport Extreme card, both are getting great reception on a Airport Extreme base station. Both have up to date software/firmware. Yet the Macbook is only moving at half the speed at best, and other times barely even works.

While there are other home networks around us, we appear to be the only operating at our channel.

I was thinking maybe the Extreme base station was the issue (sometimes the Macbook would not see it using Airport Utility), but when I switched to a Airport Express to create the network, same problem.

I tried using different firmware versions (using older than 7.4.2) on the Airport(s), but no luck.

All I can think of now is maybe I should get a new Airport Exteme card for the Macbook. Maybe mine is just not working right.

Anything else I should try though, before spending the money?
