I don’t know if this is an iPhone issue, an iOS 26 issue or an AWU2 and WatchOS 26 issue. I have a 17 Pro and I have noticed that some notifications, particularly messages, are sometimes slow to show up. I can get a message and not get the notification for a minute or two, or sometimes longer. It’s not all of the time and I can’t figure out what the cause is. I didn’t notice this on my old 14 Pro Max but I had that updated to iOS 26 for only a few days before getting my 17 Pro.

I don’t know if it is the phone or the iOS or the watch or the WatchOS. Both the watch and the phone are on 26.1 and it was also a problem on 26.0.1 and 26.1.

Has anyone noticed issues like this?

You are getting the actual notification slow, the message content itself slow or both?

Do you notice if this is with iMessage or SMS/MMC or both?

Are these messages typically from group messages with a lot of pics and videos?

Do you notice this more often when you are away from Wifi?

What are your notification settings for the Watch? 'Mirror my iPhone' or something else? Do you have a 'Repeat Alert' turned on giving the impression of a 2 minute delay when it's the second notification? Gotta ask....

I ask all that because Messages includes iMessage (data) and SMS/MMC (cellular protocol), it makes things really complex when trying to diagnose because of their fundamental differences at near every metric. Aside from SMS iPhone notifications are handled by the OS, independent of the actual app data.

I was trying to test some ideas for you using Google voice to text myself but sending a photo via MMC takes near an hour so I gave up on that! Plain text sms is fast.

The message comes instantly but the notification on the watch can be a few minutes after receiving the message. I notice it when receiving iMessages and RCS messages. It has only been an issue since updating the phone to iOS 26.*. I have a watch still on WatchOS 11 and it is a problem on that watch too, so it doesn’t seem to be related to WatchOS.
