Slow on battery power..

My new macbook (first mac =D) is awsome, but I notice all of the animations get choppy when I'm running from the battery, Is there any way to stop this? I'm willing to take the battery life hit.

i have notice the same problem on my late 2008 macbook. the option for "higher performance" is no longer available in energy saver preferences. i've been searching for a solution but so far no luck.
