Slow Performance Due To Mounted Devices

I recently restored my computer from a time machine backup. I seem to have freezing and locking up constantly. I use the program Path Finder for searching and so forth in place of finder. It works perfectly fine on my Mac Book pro. On my brand new iMac is seems to malfunction. I have contacted the makers of Path Finder but I am not sure it is a Path Finder issue because I notice when I use itunes or any program that needs to "Add" files to it, it takes a considerable amount of time to load the "Add" window. I usually get the spinning ball constantly. It especially happens when the application is loaded in the dock and I single click on it to bring up the running application and it just will not open and I need to force quit it every time. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
