I'm currently having trouble playing HD content on my SR MBP (2.4 GHz C2D, 2 GB RAM, 256 mb 8600m GT). It's very choppy and is practically unwatchable. I've tried VLC and Quicktime (with and without Perian). This content is not being streamed - it's already on my hard-drive. I've tried both mkv and m2ts files to no avail.

I have the same problem using VLC in XP (via Boot Camp). I'm attempting to display the content on a TV via DVI > HDMI. I also have the same problem with a 24" monitor connected via VGA.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm fairly sure my hardware should be able to handle this, no?

On a random side note: why does OSX display content in 1080i on my TV but Windows manages 1080p? There doesn't seem to be any discernable difference to the untrained eye at least...I was just curious. :p
