Last night i was trying to copy some data from my macpro to my macbook, i used a cd brand that i had been using for a long time without a problem. When i inserted it in the macbook it went in with a thud, sometimes that does not happen. When started to copy data off the cd it was going at avery slow rate, something like this: 2mb...4mb.....6mb.....8mb...10mb. I tryed it ejected the cd and inserted it once again, with the same result.

I have not tried another cd to see if i just happen to use a faulty one but has anyone encountered this problem?

Did the disc look scratched? There's not much we can do 'til you test a few other discs to see if it's a drive problem or just a problem with that disc. :)

Could be a bunch of things.. Bad burn, bad disc, expired shelf-life, scratches, etc. If you're confident of the media itself, try another burn. Otherwise my next suggestion would try some new media.
