My macbook pro that I just got almost 2 weeks ago takes a few minutes to shutdown when I have my external hard drive plugged in, but if I unplug the drive then my mac shutdowns in a few seconds. I also have a problem with ejecting that drive. When I try to eject it, it's icon will fade on the desktop and take a few minutes before it ejects. I also won't be able to mount that hard drive again unless I run first aid on the disk, or i unplug it and plug it back in. So, does anyone know how to fix these problems?

What is the external drive formatted to?

Is it HFS+, or is it something else?

It's HFS+, but I think I fixed the problem by updating its firmware. I'll post more if I get this problem again, but for now I think it's fixed.
