Slow Start up

I have a mid 2011 imac 21" when i start it up the apple logo shows with spinning gear the then it take about 2 minutes then i get spinning beach ball for a while then the start screen opens any ideas.
 
Have you got lots of Apps starting up when the machine boots? Could try switching some off which will certainly help:
System Preferences>System>Users & Groups>'Login Items' :)
