Startup has gone from 20 seconds to 37 seconds - any ideas? I have tried repairing permissions, SMC and PRAM reset.

Slow startup after iTunes 10.2.2 update

Hi! I had this problem every time I update iTunes since version 10.1.0. The problem has driven me crazy and it has made me do clean reinstall every single time I had to do an iTunes updates after I tried everything.

I stumbled on a post in an external website that talked about a similar problem, this is their solution:

1. Go to your Applications foder then click on the Utilities folder and click on the Terminal.app.

2. Then type the following command:

sudo chown root:admin /

3. Terminal will ask for your user password, type it in and hit the return key.

4. After the typing cursor returns write the following command:

sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

5. After the typing cursor returns write the following command:

sudo kextcache -system-caches

6. Quit disc utilities and reboot.

Then after at least 2 subsequent start ups you'll notice a boost in your boot and shutdown times.

According to the experts, sometimes software update may change the root of the account from the root user to the user itself, which is not correct.

Good Luck!

P.S. you may want to repair permissions before using software update to install new updates.
