I've noticed that my Mac is taking longer to start up recently and I'm wondering if multiple re/partitioning would cause this.
The dock and finder bar take longer than usual to load, and I am left with the beachball.
I've recently removed a windows partition, made a new one, the XP disc I had wasn't able to see the partition so I removed it again, got another version of XP a few days later, made another partition, realised it was too small for what I needed, made another and finally successfully installed windows. That's 3 removals / creations of a partition. Would this account for the slow startup?
I know Mac does not need to be defragmented due to the nature of OS X, but everyone says "unless you are working with large files", which isn't very helpful, how large is large? I dump a lot of DVD's using MacTheRipper (complete rips) onto my hard-drive before going on trips, and I remove them regularly (on average I have around 23 movies at one time totalling ~100 GB).
Lastly, I have been using NTFS-3G to write to my Windows partition, would this somehow affect startup time?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give,
dtk.
