I have a macbook from 2008 with USB 2.0 . I encrypted a partition on an external HDD and chose it to backup 200 GB of data. After 30-40 min I noticed that it only backed up only 22GB of data. I thought it was because I chose to encrypt the backup. So I canceled the backup, ticked off "Encrypt data" because the partition is encrypted anyways and re-did the backup. Same thing extremely slow.
At first it started saying "Decrypting" which I thought it was decrypting the partition. Then it backedup and then took a couple of hours to "Decrypt" again. I opened Disk Utility and it said the partition is still "encrypted" so I am not sure what was Time Machine "Decrypting". The whole process took something like 6 hours!!
Is this normal? I have Carbon Copy cloner and it backed up 55GB of data in 40min on an encrypted partition on the same HDD.
