Ok, so seems a bug. Also finding it won't complete a backup.

Not willing to wait that long to find out! Back to USB I go...

Works fine here on ac wifi (asus rt-ac87u), usb3 disk connected to synology ds215j.

I had the same problem. The only way to solve was to wipe the backup disk and start from zero. Now it is working again.
