Is it normal for it to take over an hour to empty the trash? I put maybe 15 videos in there that were about 150MB big on average and then emptied the trash. I did that because a message came up that my startup disk was almost full and when I was doing a screen/voice recording it would stop because of little disk space to record to.

slow trash emptying

It's possible that it took so long because your disk is full...Often disks start slowing down dramatically with <10% free space left.
A rotational hard drive will be a lot slower to empty than an SSD. What is your systems year and configuration.
