Hi,

I have a problem concerning video converting.
I have a 2012/2013 Imac i7 3,4 GHz, 24GB memory, 1TB fusion and gtx680mx.

I convert a lot of MKV files to play it on my ipad 2, this is a 50 minutes show in 720P to ipad format. This takes about 18 minutes to convert 1 file (i've tried a few programs with almost same result).

When i use my windows 7 in bootcamp the conversion takes 4 minutes (xilisoft hd converter), here al 8 virtual cores are being used while under osx 10.8.2 only 4 are being used and not even at 100%, 70%.

Why is the conversion in OSX so inefficient and/or is there a better program that uses all 8 virtual cores and thus speeds up the conversion.

Try Handbrake on the Mac. That uses all 8 cores. I do tons of encoding with Handbrake and have seen the benefits of the latest iMacs.

What app are you using on the Mac? MakeMKV?

I tried Handbrake, it uses all 8 cores but still it takes longer compared to xilisoft in window 7 bootcamp. Also tried aimersoft. none of any i tried are as fast as win 7
But I figured out why!

Xilisoft uses the graphic card as extra power which is not possible in OSX, or is there?
does anyone know?
