slow wifi on big sur 11.4

I have a mid 2014 macbook retina

when I first installed Big Sur my wifi was fine, but a few months ago I started to get very slow speeds in my bedroom. At 1st i thought it was down to my router but i was getting very fast speeds on a samsung phone over wifi.

Today I booted from an external hard drive, running Big sur 11.0.1 and got great speed and then i tried with the built-in drive running 11.4 and it was dead slow again.

It seems logical to me that its a software issue. Anyone else having or heard of this.

If you say, that external boot works well, it does indeed suggest a problem with either internal drive, or the system installed on it (might be some preferences, DNS caches, etc).
First of all, I'd perform First Aid on your main disk via Disk Utility.
Then, there are some other things (wireless diagnostics, resetting WiFi settings, etc) to try, described in this article.
