According to the Network Utility, I am connecting to my wireless router at 54Mb/sec. I have full bars on the connection also. I did a test transfer of a 1.09GB ISO file, and it takes about 10 min 50 sec. According to my calculations, thats about 1.717 MB/sec or 13.736 Mb/sec.

Any ideas why my transfer speed is less than 1/4 of the rated 54Mb/sec ? What could I do to improve this or fix it?

I agree with Peace, though transfer to/from a wired machine to/from a wireless machine typically yields slightly better results.

You will never get 54Mbps xfer rates via wireless...at least not with today's tech.

XP Machine wired or wireless?

XP machine is wired.

I understand 100% that I will never get 54 Mb/sec. Thats the max it can do and there are to many factors involved to ever get that. The same thing goes for USB 2.0 drives, you will never get 480 Mb/sec that USB 2.0 is rated at.

13.7 Mb/sec is still really slow, and it seem like I should be getting at least 30 Mb/sec.
