everything seems really slow in mavericks to me. safari is so slow i can even use it anymore. any one else having this issue. I have a late 2011 MBP 256 SSD 8 gb ram and a 500gb HDD in optibay

i turned it off. I went to chrome and the browser is faster.

I noticed that originally, even though people reported that Safari was faster, I found Chrome to be faster as well. I was disappointed as I so wanted to go back to Safari, as I need Java, which is not available in Chrome. However, I forced myself to use Safari and it is so much faster now, and comparable if not faster than Chrome. It was almost as if something needed to set in and optimize for a little bit and then it went back to super fast. Loving it much more now.

It is a standalone download provided by Apple from Oracle, The issue is that it is now 64 bit, and has been since 7 was released. Chrome is still a 32 bit browser and thus Java 6 is all that is supported but I need the latest Java version for my job, so I either have to run IE in one of my VMs that is running anyway already (needed for Windows only work apps), Safari, or FF. Chrome is out in my case for work related things. When is Google going to get with the program and offer up a 64 bit browser so I can use my Java 7 (one highly needed work app requires Java for uploads so I must use Java).
