Hi guys

I upgraded to the latest version of macOS. I own a mac mini late 2012, 16 GB, i7 with a spinner. Since the update it takes likes ages to open files. It also shows a verifying message upon opening a movie or so in vlc. The device becomes unresponsive now and then.

Has anyone got the same issues?

Tx for your answer!

My "stock answer" that I've been posting for years:
Buy an EXTERNAL USB3 SSD, then set it up to be the boot drive (instead of the internal).

A 250gb or 500gb SSD will do fine.
If you have more than (say) 400gb of space used up on the internal drive, leave "some of the stuff" there (such as movies, which take up lots of space).
Keep the boot SSD "lean, clean and mean" and you will be rewarded.
Put the OS, apps, and your accounts on the SSD (again, leave "large libraries" on the internal drive).

Do this, and your "speed problems" will be OVER -- a problem of the past.
It's really that simple.

Good idea but I've noticed that my mini keeps losing the connection to the lacie external hard drive (going into sleep mode). Will he do so for the boot drive too?
