Sluggish performance with external monitor ( Dell U2410 )

Hey everyone,

I just got a refurbished Dell U2410. Hooked up to my 2009 MBP (13.3", 2.53 Ghz, 4 GB DDR3, 160 GB Intel SSD, Nvidia 9400m).

I have an Apple Brand adapter, mini-DP to DVI-D.

I notice things are a little sluggish on the external. Windows minimizing and maximizing, expose, scrolling, everything in general is just noticeably slower. Ive seen this with other externals as well. So whats going on here? inadequacies on the 9400m?

Would upgrading to a 2010 Macbook Pro help at all with the 320m?
