This morning when I got on my new iMac there was a small glitch. I had turned on iTunes and the volume control in the top bar wouldn't let me increase or decrease the volume. When I highlighted the slider it was OK but when I slid the cursor off the highlighted blue on the bar to the volume button the slider section went off. It also had a sound coming out of it which might be the cord. It was kind of a rapid bumpity bump sound.
I restarted the computer and the login filled out 12 dots for the login and I couldn't log in. So, I restarted it and pushed Command S to get to the registry. I entered fsck -fy and ran it. The hard drive appeared to be OK. So I entered exit and the computer booted up properly. I then went to Disc Utility and verified the disc. It came up with a zero. (Last line in log) Not sure what that means.
At any rate I wanted to know what I should do in the day to day to insure the computers proper working. I had not restarted in a couple weeks so that may have been all it was. It is working properly now.
One other thing. Before it restarted it went to a black screen with a blinking 1/2 inch diameter white circle that looked like the Western Hemisphere and the world. Never seen that before. I pushed return a few times and that finally went off and it restarted into the Command-S.
Love this Mac. Worth every penny and I don't want my negligence to screw it up. Thanks.
